LET’S ENCRYPT CERTIFICATES NOW IN USE!

Finally, encryption for the masses…

Let’s Encrypt (https://letsencrypt.org/) has now officially launched their public beta, and we are using their certificates across our sites, with the sole exception of excathedra.co where we still have a commercial wildcard. We’ll migrate that site when it expires.

We’ve been working with them on the private beta for some time, and it’s all been fairly smooth – with some hairy scripting to automate, but that’s part of the fun.

This now allows us to ensure all traffic is encrypted with recognised signed certificates, without having to resort to complex kludges to reduce the number of sites we use (e.g. p.excathedra.co, c.excathedra.co…)
